Roy Thame Road Race Saturday
the 9th March
|
I managed to get a late entry in for the Roy
Thame road race. I was Hoping to be with
my Team in Boulder by now but I have only just
got my Visa sorted in the last few days!
I am flying out to Denver on the 17th March
and should arrive at a respectable time in
Denver if there are no plane delays of course!
The Spring Chicken race was before our race.
I began to get nervous when I saw a guy hobbling
in with a broken collar bone from the earlier race!
It started to rain when we set off but
it soon stopped by the 2nd lap thankfully.
The wind was high today and the pot holes were
definitely to be avoided if you wanted to stay
upright and not get a puncture! Thankful I
managed both unlike the poor guy in front on me
who took the full force of a big whole!
The race was fast on a flat to rolling course.
The attacks pretty much started within the
first 5k. On lap 2 a break formed which
included Roy Chamberlain, Richard Prebble
and about 4 Pearl Izumi riders. The break rode
strongly and stayed out front but Liam Holohan
proved his strength by winning the sprint for
Pear Izumi with his team mate Stephan Adam in
2nd place.
I was with the bunch but we were not able to catch the
break but still the pace was very high until the
finish. The race split a lot which
was probably due to the weather conditions and
the speed! I felt strong today and
kept my position well to finish in the bunch - pleased with my
performance. Can't wait to get to start my
season!
I am hoping to find a race for next weekend
if it ties in with my travel arrangements to
Gatwick on Sunday evening!
