22nd March - Colorado Criterium
I hooked up with the girls and
we headed to North Colorado for the Promontory Criterium. It was
forecasted to be snowing today so we were a bit unsure if we
would actually get to race but the snow didn't fall until 5pm so we
were lucky!
It was really cold today but
thankfully not
as windy as it had been lately. The circuit was 1.1k with 4 roundabouts
which was the first time I had seen any roundabout here in
Colorado (I felt at home today!)! The
circuit had a drag towards the
finish which suited me so the plan was for me to get away and
take the win with the help of my team mates of course.
Carie attacked early on and got a
good gap but we needed to have 2 people in the break so I
attacked and got across with Clare and another rider. We
worked together to get a good gap over the field.
I got a puncture with 5 laps
to go but carried on for 2 laps with it flat as I was
unsure if I had enough time to get back in the break after a wheel change as
I was not allowed a lap out. Anyway after much deliberation I
took the wheel change which was slow and during this time
an attack was launched from the break as she saw I was in
trouble. So I busted my gut to catch the break back then I
took a flyer past them and Carie and Clare controlled things
so I could take the win and Carie crossed the line 2nd with
Claire in 3rd place! So a 1-2-3 for America's Dairyland today!
Kate took the bunch sprint for fifth place so overall a good day
for us today.
Tomorrow we head to Boulder
which is local to us for a NCCA race, should be fun!
